News from the Burlington Liberals – May 2017

Posted on May 11, 2017

With the release of our second budget – with transformational investments in important areas like homecare, mental health, affordable housing, childcare, climate change and transitioning to a clean economy as well as skills development and lifelong learning – last month is another exciting step on delivering on our commitments for Canadians.

With warmer weather tempting us in the days and weeks to come, it’s time to break out the running shoes and connect with our community in Burlington. I will be back out at the doors once a month from May to October to hear from our residents as to how they think our government is doing. I hope you can join me and continue with our approach of listening and engaging with Burlingtonians to ensure effective representation and get feedback as to what the priorities are for our friends and neighbours.

Read on to learn what about what will be coming up in Burlington this month. I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming community events and catching up soon!

– Karina Gould, Member of Parliament for Burlington

– the Chair (formerly the President’s position);
– Vice Chair (formerly the Executive Vice-President);
– Secretary;
– Organization Chair;
– Policy Chair;
– and six at-large voting directors.

Earlier this year, the Young Liberals club was refounded in Burlington and they’ve been growing rapidly since! This past week the YLs held a successful Game Day event at Central Library, and have taken part in local canvasses, helping us reach out the community. We want to thank every Young Liberal who has taken part in the events so far, and look forward to seeing what you do next!

If you’re interested in joining or supporting the Burlington Young Liberals, let us know! Liberals 25 or younger can sign up as YL members and take part in local events, as well as exciting opportunities further afield. Young Liberals hold a yearly Internship Program at Queen’s Park, youth-focused policy conventions, and much more!

You can learn more by visiting, and sign up by contacting our local president Aiman Akmal.

Burlington Women’s Liberal Association

In March, our members established the Burlington Women’s Liberal Association, an important step in advancing equality for women in our party and our community.

As part of the National Liberal Women’s Commission, the BWLA will be part of a team that encourages the active participation of women at all levels. This will help ensure that issues that matter to women are at the forefront in our party. Women’s Liberal clubs support female candidates across Ontario and Canada with initiatives like the Judy LaMarsh Fund.Interested in joining the BWLA? Send us an e-mail at and we’ll put you in touch with our local organizers!
